Mental stress (M.S) is a kind of long-lasting, stressful, and complicated mental state which isformed from an individual's reaction to stressing events during the practice. A moderate andshort-term M.S. helps carry on the practice successfully, but an excess and long-term M.S. can havebad effects on its normal performance. During their work and study, young college teachers (Y.C.T.)often come across M.S. of different degrees, so this study is to conduct research on their M.S. andtheir coping modes (C.M.).With 308 Y.C.T.s drawn out from Nanjing University, Hohai University, and Jiangsu Instituteof Economic and Trade Technology, this study adopted three research tools, such as Life StressScale, Work Stress Scale, and Coping Modes Scale, and analyzed their M.S. and their self-copingmodes.It indicates that the main M.S. for Y.C.T.s is from work and learning, among which time stress, support stress and character stress are the most drastic, from those stressing events' effectivedegree's and time's points of view. There are some significant differences of the stress from Y.C.T.s'families, work, learning and social activities in sex, marriage, diploma, major and title of a technicalpost. Due to the differences of age, sex, marriage, diploma, major and title of a technical post, thereare some significant differences of their C.M.. At the same time, they considered the three C.M.(self-active coping, active seeking help, and controlling their thinking and temper) as the mosteffective. On basis of investigation, and by analyses, this study put forward some suggestions fromsocial, schools', families' and personal points of view, so that help Y.C.T.s to adapt to their M.S.better.
