Study On Xinyuan Middle School In Nanchang

After the Opium War, Chinese society got into change ages greatly. The traditional feudalism education can't satisfy the talented person needed by the society. So the education of China began the turning into modern education and the important contents among those is the establishment of modern style schools. Being subjected to the check and supervision of economic, culture, social values and geography etc., the modern education started late. XiongYuYang who was influenced deeply by YanFu's thought that science and technology education saves country thought the reason why China fell behind other countries is that China's science and industry fell behind other countries'. He thought that only science and technology could save China. So he set up the earliest private middle school in 1901 in Jiangxi—Xinyuan Middle School.This thesis studies Xinyuan Middle School. Utilizing a large number of the documental data and the dossier, from the view of history and pedagogy, the paper mainly analyzes the background and the history of this school, in order to study its educational characters, fruitages and influences and summarize its advantages and disadvantages. It is of great significance to develop the private schools in the new historical conditions in China.
