Negative rhetoric is an essential and common means. Positive rhetoric is surely based on negative rhetoric. In course of the teaching of Chinese language, negative rhetoric reflects the detailed requirement that by picking out words and patterns a language should be expressed and illustrated accurately, concisely, appropriately and coherently. Valuing negative rhetoric is required by the new teaching and learning goals for middle schools, by the characteristics of the linguistic development of students and by the current conditions of the rhetoric teaching for senior middle schools.On the basis of the survey for the current conditions of students' language expression, from the choice of both words and patterns the essay analyses and discusses the phenomenon of the inappropriate rhetoric used by students. The dissatisfaction about picking words and patterns in their expressions is vividly described and analysed in details. Meanwhile, focused on the situations of students' using language, the essay states the detailed measures on how to carry on the teaching of negative rhetoric.The essay says it is necessary to collect large quantities of perceptual materials. Vocabulary is the key to measuring the capacity of language expression. The aim of learning a language is to use it and language training is the necessary and scientific way to achieve the goal. Practice is valuable and essential for language training. Thus, Language teaching has to focus on the students' practice with the help of teachers.
