One of the fundamental aspects of the High School Curriculum Reform in China is to change the students' mode of learning. To remould traditional receptive learning and adopt inquiry learning has been eye-catching in the reform. Ground on in-depth researches on inquiry learning: the concept, its theoretical framework and its application in teaching practice at home and abroad, this dissertation explores the necessity and possibility of the inquiry learning approach to junior history teaching. The outcome of experiments on inquiry learning conducted in history teaching practice at high schools in China will also be analyzed in detail. In the author's view, by enhancing the students' interest in learning, inquiry learning can not only improve the students' ability to collect and process information but also encourage them to cooperate and communicate with others; and furthermore, it can help the students score higher on their tests. However, these experiments have also been confronted with great difficulty; therefore, to apply inquiry learning in routine teaching practice, change of ideas of teachers; students; parents and even the whole society as well as financial support is urgently needed.
