The Internationalization Of Higher Education--The History And Current Situation In China

The internationalization of higher education is a tendency of modern higher education's reform and development. It is not only the important reflection and the inner requirement of the essential characteristics of higher education, but also the adaptation character required inevitably by the development of modern society. As the basic impetus and target of modernization of higher education, internationalization becomes the common choices and strategies of higher education's reform and development in developed countries. It is also the objective requirement to change its world position and ecological relationship in developing countries. Reviewing on the history of emergency and development of China modern higher education, we can see it clearly that it is established in the course of the western spreading the orient subjects, learning and absorbing the advanced elements in the west education. So the hundred years' history of higher education is also an evolution history of internationalization of higher education. Revealing its succession and evolution relationship, unearthing and making full use of the inner resources, we can provide valuable enlightenments to the internationalization, such as the strategic target of constructing the classic universities in the world, and taking the trade in education service, etc. After the analysis of the history and present condition of the internationalization of higher education, this paper concludes that we should deal well with the relationship between the theory of knowledge and politics, between the internationalization and nationalization. Making use of the international resources scientifically and efficiently can improve the levels of both the internationalization and modernization of higher education.
