It is certain that self-responsibility is a basic requirement for a person's quality in future society, the basis of a sane personality. Its cultivation is regarded as a necessary task of quality education. In this thesis, some theoretical hypothesis and practical issues in the area of the urban junior high school student's self-responsibility will be discussed under the guiding principle of Marxism.It is held in this thesis that self-responsibility is one's sentiment reflected in the active and earnest attitude towards living and advancing, on the promise that laws, regulations and moral criterions are observed. Self-responsibility includes self-care, self-study and self-adjusting, with the character of fundamentality, sociality, and relates closely to intelligence factor, non-intelligence factor and mental developmental level. Self-responsibility of junior high school students is the basis of their responsibility for school, family, society and nation. It is necessary in preparing talented people for the 21st century. Also its cultivation can benefit the quality education and knowledge procurement, thus can help the teacher to do their work better.In this thesis, investigations and systematic analyses are taken for the level and character of urban junior high school students' self-responsibility. The author believes that junior high school students have begun to understand and carry out their obligation, but the general level is lower than that expected by school and society. It is investigated that, in junior high school period, the level of students' self-responsibility shows a fall-and-rise trend. Self-responsibility of Grade II students is obvious lower than that of Grade I, Grade III student's self-care, self-study, self-adjusting is obvious higher than that of Great II. In the same grade, Grade II girl students' self-adjust is higher than the boys'. Grade III girl students' self-care, self-adjust are also higher than boys' . Both girl and boy students' self-responsibility experienced an obvious fall-and-rise process, in which that of boys changes greater. The Grade III girls' self-adjust is obvious higher than that when they were enrolled, but the boys' self-responsibility shows no obviousadvance.The thesis considers that the present condition of students' self-responsibility of urban junior high school is influenced by a multiple-unit view of value, family teaching manner, teacher influence, class environment, friendship, adolescent physiology and cognition ability, among which the family and school are the most important factors.Based on the above analysis, it is argued that active measures must be taken for cultivating and advancing the self-responsibility of junior high school students, and some educational measures are proposed, including the way and method, and what we should pay attention to during the process.
