Based on investigation, psychological tests, documents, cause investigation and analysis, and mathematical statistics, this thesis made a systematic study on the contemporary characteristics of early 21st century excellent physical education teachers in Chinese secondary school, and on the talent-making factors, with 153 secondary schools from the "Cross-Century Gardening Engineering " training class composed of the key primary and secondary physical educational teachers of national level as the objects of study. In order to probe into the psychological contributing to the excellence of these core teachers, the thesis also applied the Cattell 16PF measuring table to the sample tests, and analyzed the individual characteristics of these sample teachers.The research results showed that these key secondary school physical educational teachers are devoted to work, diligent, and innovative and enterprising, with a strong sense of democracy and a good professional image, and that they steadily improve their structure of knowledge ,have great abilities, and are good at self-examination and self-control .The talent-contributing inner factors are that they have a strong sense of self-respect, a desire for achievements and a devotion to work, and that they are responsible, work hard, can learn new lessons and practise new skills independently, build a sense of life-long learning and pay attention to learning methods. External factors are also shown, such as society, the school and the family-the three environments they live in, the trust of the organization (including leaders' attention and support), social praise and good interpersonal relationships. It is also reveled that these core teachers show certain priority in psychology. The male teachers' raw scores are obviously higher than the standard scores hi gregariousness, excitement, persistence, daringness, strength and much lower in anxiety and nervousness. They are adaptable and extrovert with less anxiety, and are psychologically healthy. The female teachers' raw scores are obviously higher than the standard scores in gregariousness, intelligences, excitement, fantasy and daringness, but lower hi anxiety. They, too, are adaptable and extrovert, with healthy psychology and creative personalities. Therefore it can be concluded that these teachers show good psychological traits.The purpose of the study is to set up a demonstrating example for the talent -converting of secondary school physical educational teachers, and offer a reference to the after -employment education and the overall-quality improvement of physical educational teachers in secondary schools.
