On The Political Socialization Of Contemporary Chinese College Students

Political socialization is not only the process that social members acquire existing sociopolitical culture through study and practice, but also the process that sociopolitical culture spread in the development of society. Political socialization of college students is the main content of that of citizens. As elite of youth, college students are energetic power and backbone of social politics both present and in the future, whose level of political socialization is directly related to the destiny of individuals and the nation's long-term stability. Since reform and opening, along with economic development and the dramatic changes in international and domestic situation, sociopolitical culture is preparing and undergoing profound rhythm, which has had a great impact on the political socialization of college students. Therefore, we study political socialization of college students so as to understand the current situation, analyze the causes, and grasp the regular pattern. It is the study that will have important practical significance and even far-reaching historical significance in actively guiding students to realizing political socialization and maintaining social stability.Guided by the Marxist theory, this paper on one hand reviewed, reorganized and analyzed the relevant literature, on the other hand conducted a survey of 500 full-time undergraduates in Nanjing University. This survey studied the basic status, problems and influencing factors of political socialization of college students. Thus based on reality, the author put forward countermeasures through analysis and research.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is based on the analysis and reference of other scholars'research. It explains the meaning of political socialization, and defines the content, features and functions of political socialization of college students.The second part comprehensively analyzes the present situation of political socialization of college students on the basic of the result of survey. Overall, the mainstream of political socialization of college students is positive and healthy, but there also exists some problems that cannot be ignored. The third part studies the main factors that influence political socialization of college students from five aspects as family, school, social environment, mass media and peer groups.With full analysis and research, the fourth part bases on China's reality and then proposes measures to optimize political socialization of college students. That is to pay closer attention to political socialization of college students, improve ideological and political education, and bring to play the role of mass media especially the Internet.
