The Rise Of Regionalism In East Asia And The Strategies Of China After The Cold War

By the promotion of global economy development, the regionalism upsurge is going to be irresistible after the cold war. Not only the Europe integration but also the North American free-trade area is taking on the swift and violent development trend. Of course, Asia will not make an exception. Especially, the appearance of "10+3" mechanism in East-Asia is a sign of formation about East-Asia regionalism.This dissertation include five main chapters. The first chapter is going to discuss the theory about regionalism: Firstly, making a clear definition about some important conceptions such as "region", "East-region", "regional quality" and "regionalism"; secondly, pointing out the momentum of regionalism rise consists of two leading aspects------the need of realizing the country interests and collectivity rebound toward toexterior impulsion; thirdly, analyzing the conditions about regionalism rise includesthree factors------the presence of center power involve in politics, economy andcivilization or the common existence about some statuesque countries in the region, the similar merit viewpoint in these countries and doing some certain forecasts towards to the action each other; the strong desirability of changing the primary status quo.The second chapter is going to analyze the background of the regionalism rise in the East Asia after the cold war: in the first place, ASEAN and the NAFTA are excluding the other economic entity because of the intensification about regionalism degree which force the East Asia countries to feel tremendous mental tension and brings the collectivity rebound toward to exterior impulsion; in the second place, the two poles structure in Asia is replaced by the multi-polar situation, and the countries in possession of a good substance foundation are going to find regional cooperation consciously as soon as possible; in the third place, based on the high speed economic development, the countries in East Asia are shaping the adaptable regional consciousness from each other, the mention of Asian merit viewpoint is an primary sign for shaping the regional consciousness in East Asia; in the last place, the fact that USA is a super power country and the its attitude conversion to regionalism is a factor to form the East Asia regionalism.The third chapter will discuss the representation of the regionalism rise in the East Asia after the cold war: there is a common character about regionalism in today's worldwhich is called "diversity" ------the different countries in the world have the dissimilarstandpoints on the regionalism and its realizable conditions and the outcome of regionalism is also different in thousands ways. The representation of regionalism rise in East Asia is also showing itself this character. There are the obvious representations in different ranges (large-scale regionalism, medium-scale regionalism, small-scale regionalism) and in different development stages.The fouth chapter will try to hunt the strategic Countermeasures in china. Firstly, there are dual meanings for china due to the rise of regionalism in East Asia : on one hand, we have the basic interests in East Asia, including the political interests and economic interests, and the participation in East Asia cooperation not only have the relation to the basic interests but also have the compact inherent connections to the other countries and organizations; on the other hand, the modern development of China will not separate from the sustentation by the whole East Asia.The last will said that China is becoming the engine of economy and is an indispensable force for politics and economy in East Asia, which enough show that China possesses the significant status in participating the East Asia regionalism development. Thirdly, the further development of East Asia regionalism encounters the dual obstacles from both interior and exterior. The interior factors come down to the ethical, religious, history, economy and regional self-identity; and the exterior factor means that the whole East Asia is unsubstantial and is depending upon the USA. Fourthly, the development of East Asia regionalism brings China both opportunities and challenges, and the opportunities are more than challenges on the whole. China should make the right strategies to impel the further development of East Asia regionalism fully and self-construction.
