Cezanne's painting thoughts came into being in the certain culture circumstance of 19th century. His ideology of painting synthesized complex influence of Kant, Schopenhauer, Delacroix, Hugo, Rodin, Baudelaire, and affected by the impact of Darwin's theory of evolution. So, there were features of the emerging irrationalism trend and pessimism at that time in Cezanne's painting ideas. He allowed for the artistic concept of Aestheticism aesthetics and aesthetics of ugliness. Thus his painting moved towards Anti-tradition. Cezanne's painting had close connections with the new development of the aesthetics of ugliness in 19th century.Firstly, the article expounds the background of social politics, economy and culture then. In 19th century's Europe, it made large progress in the cause of politics, economy, and culture. However, social progress brought not only wealth and prosperity but also alienation of human being. It made a major change in human values, too.Secondly, it presents the new changes in philosophy, aesthetic, artistic theory and practice. It mainly focuses on the emerging of irrationalism at the turn in these fields referred to above. In this period, ugliness played an important role in 19th century's artistic practice and in Cezanne's painting works.Next, it elaborates Cezanne's painting thought characteristic of non-rationalism and pessimism emphatically. Also, it probes into the solid exemplification in Cezanne's painting ideas and his painting works.Finally, this article sums up Cezanne's painting ideas. According to the article, Cezanne's painting ideas raised from the concept of fighting against"art- imitating- nature"in irrationalism aesthetics and aestheticism aesthetics under the specific historical conditions of 19th century. Last but not the least; ugliness has undertaken the influential role. In the end of this article, the author prospects the aspects which have not involved in the study of Cezanne.
