A Study Of Controversies On Dialectic Materialism: From The Perspective Of The Sinicization Of Marxism

In essence, the sinicization of Marxist philosophy is the process of combining the Fundamental Tenets of Martist Philosophy with specific practice in China and Chinese traditional culture. It is also a transformational process of the thinking mode from theoretical to practical. The controversy on Dialectical materialism in the 1930s mainly focus on whether Marxist philosophy is effective and truth in terms of the following philosophical issues:substance and function of Dialectic Materialism, relationships between Material and spiritual, between dialectical logic and Metaphysics, between philosophy and science, the question whether philosophy will die, epistemology, philosophy and historical view. It is a controversy that can be regarded as a turning point of the transformation from theoretical to practical philosophy in the Chinese philosophical circle, and a powerful engine to promote the sinicization of Marxism.The controversy has developed and popularized the Marxist philosophy, which are mainly manifested in the following aspects:the translation of classical original works and foreign textbooks; the publications of and contributions made by Chinese Marxists. It also promoted the development of the sinicization and realization of the Marxist philosophy, which are expressed in the following perspectives:the impacts on the establishment of the academic position of Marxist philosophy; the transformation from Russialization to sinicization of the text books; and the formation of the so-called "Liang-Lun".In the moment, the fact that Maxism is greatly challenged because of such political reasons as the disintegration of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe countries, etc. requires us to stand firmly to defend, expound and develop the Maxist philosophy. In this sense, some important issues raised in the controversy is not outdated but suits the new situation. Our reflections on the debates are as follows:Induct the revolutionary and historical experiences into theories; promote the combination of Maxism with fine traditional Chinese culture; succeed the spiritual heritage of dialectical materialism at present; and prevent book worship and dogmatism.
