| Lin Yutang is a great master who benefits a lot for the communication between west culture and Chinese culture, and is also an aesthete whose aesthetic target is life itself. Basing on common life and taking it into aesthetic vision, he is trying to express the art of living in the eyes of a humanist. Standing from the perspective of authenticity, this paper is to explore Lin Yutang's aesthetic thoughts on life.This thesis firstly introduces the meaning of authenticity and analyzes how the thoughts are formed from three aspects of family and grow-up environment, living times, and the influence from western and eastern culture; then, it analyzes how authenticity is embodied in the following perspectives as respect to the life, the value of human body and emotion, leisure and humorous attitude to life, the idea of moderate life, affection to nature and treating art as play. Compared with other aesthete's opinions of art of life, like Zong Baihua , Zhu Guangqian and Zhou Zuoren ,Lin Yutang's pays much more attention to the individuality and life itself, and enlightens people on the life condition in modern times.Basing on reading LinYutang's works, this thesis is trying to analyze and conclude the meaning and performance of the thought of authenticity though the way of "interpretation to classics". Formed on the premise of respect to human being and importance of daily life, the thought of authenticity attaches much importance to human's emotion and body; it appreciates the beauty of life and looks forward to the leisure, beautiful, happy and free life style.
