Hypallage, as a figure of speech, is frequently used in daily expressions. A better understanding of this seemingly illogical modification is undoubtedly of great benefit for our communications. This thesis expounds the definition, feature and generating motivation of hypallage firstly; through analyzing the color terms hypallage of high frequency, the author makes a further study of cultural and subcultural connotations of color terms. The present thesis is an attempt to demonstrate the cognitive meaning construction of color terms hypallage on the basis of conceptual integration theory. The aim of this study is to attract people's attention to commonly used color terms and promote a better understanding in communication.Conceptual integration theory (CIT) advanced by Fauconnier and Turner is applied to the interpretation of color terms hypallage. Conceptual integration is a general cognitive operation, which opens up a new field for studying meaning construction at all levels. Conceptual integration relies on cross-space mappings, and mappings across cognitive domains play a central role in language and thought. The meaning construction of color terms hypallage relies on the cognitive process of metaphor and metonymy.Hypallage study of color terms is a completely new perspective of hypallage study. With the development of society and cross-culture communication, the study of this area is essential. The significance of this study lies in that it provides a new perspective of color terms study and a powerful tool for cross-culture communication.
