It was a period of science and technology innovation and economic development during the last years of the 19th century and first years of 20th century, people were moresatisfied with their abundance of material goods, but losing the original spirit and natural homeworld day by day. Comparing with the life changes brought by the industrialization, people preferred the life style which was natural but gone gradually. Therefore, people became interested in rebelling against old traditions; decadence of the end of century, melancholy mood and forward thought crying revolution blindly rose greatly to negate the whole western philosophy and culture, and philosophy anti-rationality as the core came into being.Henri Bergson, a philosopher of intuitionism, negated the rigid idea in the traditional philosophy of that everything was substantial and static to point out the respective limited range between empirical science and philosophy, ration and intuition. He established a new philosophy advocating using a changing outlook to see the world and believed that every moment was limitless no matter how short the specific period. Bergson broke the chains of time and space to gain the control over time and space, and showed people's changing mental activity and complex sensitive life by using the psychological time, therefore, Bergson's thought catered for the dream and pursuit of every artist of modernism. When time was redefined and extension was approved, artists of modernism would replace process and whole with wonderful moment or classical instant no more. Instead, they took the responsibility of creating an artistic language of a new age in order to show their new understanding about the truth of the world.Matisse, a representative of Fauves, made a research on the unconsciousness of mind using his own intuition through smooth line, steady plane and rhythmic color in pursuit of quiet and comfortable visual experience. His works were not only express the reality, conciseness and simplicity of the surface, but also give people a feeling of decoration.Picasso, a representative of cubism, broke up objects, broke objects into pieces, composing the picture with small pieces of geometric forms and complicated lines. The reformed fragments were too abstract to understand, therefore, people had to not to focus on its theme. The final significance of such methods was to build new combination order. The artist designed picture according to his own "psychological space-time", displaying solids from different angles, and successfully demonstrated the complicated modern ideology and modern experience with new space-time order. Picasso broke the single visual angle of perspective drawing, having people watch the painting from various visual angles and watch in the light of numerous moments, introducing the new measurement of time into painting.Matisse, manifesting and led by instinct as well, preferred the acquisition of sense of stabilization and was eager to create a space where the lacerate modern people could escape from confusion and chaos temporarily to relax and finally to confront the realistic confusions with the sense of peacefulness, harmony, comfort and ease. And Picasso tended to novelty and provocative passion, expressing his dissatisfaction with real life. For the artists of modernism, the real appreciation, it is not to get pictures which are in accordance with real life by viewing sensuously in the light of division and space, but to get inside directly to the instinct and color, line, form... which could not be separated from each other to display its impression, rhythm and sensibility. Artists pay more attention to expressing the feeling in daily life instead of a specific classical episode of life. However, intuitionism and its arts also have innate limitations, which could not be avoided. Because the intuitionism has strong mysticism with it and have not successfully worked out any effective measure, the modern arts have a lot of problems to deal with in practice, and the arts even developed towards the road of extreme sense and cold notion, and the idea that theories come first in practice became popular.
