The C-E Translation Of TV Soft News From The Perspective Of Functionalist Approaches

News translation is not the production of one text equivalent to another text. The process of news translating is determined by the intended function.This thesis focuses on the C-E translation of TV soft news from the perspective of functionalist approaches. According to Reiss, TV soft news belongs to the informative text type. Its function is to inform the audience of various kinds of information. Skopostheorie (a theory of purposeful action applied to translation) presents a good theoretical basis for receptor-centered translation of TV soft news. English TV soft news in China aims to make the whole world deepen the understanding of China and promote the international status of the country in the world, so it is whether the news receptors from other cultures understand what is conveyed by the news that really accounts in achieving of the aim. The interest, values, and concerns of translation receptors should be taken into account in the process of translation.The author analyzes the features of TV soft news, and applies the functionalist approach in the C-E translation of TV soft news. The combination of theory and practice is embodied in three aspects: translation brief, source-text analysis, and translation problems. In conclusion, the author puts forward three translation strategies, namely, abridgement, adaptation and interpretation. Translators should base the TT on the actual situations and choose the proper strategies.
