Even if in world literature history, Virginia Woolf, the most brilliant woman writer in the 20th century English literature is undoutedly renowned. As a learned scholar with inborn imagination, Woolf is making a sustained effort to pursue the essence of life, capture the moment of being and explore the inner world of human beings. In her whole life, as a prolific writer, Woolf works diligently, yielding a considerable number of novels, essays, critical reviews and so on. In addition, she keeps a diary and regularly writes letters. Last but not least, Woolfs dramatic personal life is eye-catching: born in a scholarly family, she grows into the soul of Bloomsbury Group, a lesbian with acute mental derangement and finally commits suicide drown in a river. Thanks to the significance of Woolf as a writer as well as the abundance and fascination of relevant materials available for research, scholars have studied Woolf comprehensively from diversified angles and published myriads of monographies, books, articles and biographies. There are still some research blanks in domestic studies, including three biographies written by Woolf and many biographies written on Woolf, Woolf's essays on other writers and works (except those concerning literary theory construction), and the mutual influence between Woolf and Bloomsbury Group. However,studiesab(?)d have done these jobs to varying degrees. Faced with such a current research situation, the thesis endeavors to find a new angle to examine Woolf's prominent literary views and works by looking upon the West from the East—from the standpoint of communication and conflict to reflect and evaluate the features of Woolf shown in the process, which are three indispensable terms in Woolf's literary writing practice and theory, namely "time", "feminism", and "poetry in prose".The early years of the 20th century saw the debut of Woolfs works and theories in China, the face-to-face contact and initial conflict of Chinese scholars and Chinese native literature with Woolfs works and theories. Both precious and typical, such an early-stage dialogue is endowed with significant literary and cultural meanings. That is why the span of time in the thesis is limited to within the early years of 20th century.
