The line is one of drawing fundamental mode elements, in the traditional painting in the period from Europe Renaissance to the impressionism, the line has the noticeable function and the significance.Starting merely from the form angle, taking the universal form principle as well as the research results of vision and consciousness to the psychology, the article analysis the most representative schools and works. In the European traditional painting, serving the practical modeling, the line relates closely with light and shade, color etc. in the process of painting, existing by suiting the physical image and half concealment; Some kinds of line molds the physique, and also demonstrates respective aesthetic sense characteristic, such as the wavy line, serpentines linear, the bow line, the straight line and so on. The material technique procedure has decided the line demonstrating result; The line combination presents the tendentious tensity, because of the sensation ability of vision and consciousness, facilitating the line movement, the contrast of the style of line has followed the diverse unification form principle, manifesting the certain aesthetic sense and the expressive force, and strengthening the work subject expression.
