The paper, by archetype criticism, goes into Cao yu's dramas, finds archetype intension on the roles, summarizes archetype spirit on the writer, and discusses how the archetype spirit affected the writer's course. The first is Dionysus, the wine-god, whose archetype shows on the roles such as Fanyi and Zhou Ping, The characteristics of Dionysus is consisted of lust, humanity, rebellion and anti-reason. The story on Fanyi and zhou Ping manifests the Dionysus' climax and dissipation, which demonstrate the two characters are strong or weak to lust for feelings and pleasure, and show the anti-Dionysus, such as ethics and morals, kill people's spirits. The story between Jinzi and Qiu Hu displays the Dionysus' pure and mixed difference. The difference decides their success and failure in their lust for feelings and pleasure. The rebellion and anti-reason is the most excellent aspect of Dionysus, which shows on Fanyi, and Jinzi,The second is Apollo, a dream god. The paper talks about two sets of dreams. The first set is in-dream and out-dream. Lu Shi-ping and Chen Bailu dream that they get happiness in the dark world. On the contrary, Hua Jinzi dreams of going out of the dark world and living on a bright and ideal land. She succeeds. The second set is unreal dream and real dream. Zhou Chong's dream of family, society and love is beautiful and unreal. Ruizhen's dream alters from unreal illusion to real idea. So the dream-god in Cao Yu's dramas shows a course, from internal to external, from illusion to idea, from death to rebirth. The wine-god spirit and dream-god spirit on the roles in Cao Yu's dramas, stem from Cao Yu's wine-god and dream-god feelings, which depend on Cao Yu's gloomy temperament, depressed childhood and cultural affection of the East and the West. From the THUNDERSTORM, the RISING SUN, the COUNTRY to the BEIJING PEOPLE the wine-god spirit conceals slowly and the dream-god spirit becomes strong. So there appears a transition from anti-reason to reason. Of course, the reason doesn't prevail over the anti-reason. But in the latter of Cao Yu's dramas, it does, and the artistic level becomes low.Discussing Cao Yu's dramas by Dionysus and Apollo archetype not only helps us know the roles' spirit, but also helps us inspect the change in Cao Yu's course.Dionysus and Apollo are the two common spiritual characteristics between the roles and the writer, which are conducive to create a new world in archetype study of Cao Yu's dramas.
