On The Characteristics Of Zong Baihua's Aesthetic Thoughts

Zong Baihua is undoubtedly one of the most characteristic aestheticians in the history of Chinese modern aesthetics. Starting from culture to the aestheticism, he adopted particuliar unrestrained observing methods and image describing forms to study "the life" and to analyze different artistic space-time aesthetic consciousness, their philosophy and cultural connotation. He reconsidered the concept of "yijing" and endowed it with ontological position and modern spirit. This thought influenced arts as well as life and helped to shape an active artistic life attitude and aesthetic personality. All the above has shown that Prof. Zong Baihua has made peculiar efforts in the conversation between and combination of the ancient and the modern, the Oriental and the Western.While the modern Chinese literary critics are having hot discussions of the transformation from traditional literary theories to a modern one and the meditations upon the twentieth century, this thesis, from the viewpoints of cultural poetics, is set to explore the up-to-date significance and contribution of Zong Baihua's aesthetic perspectives and manifestations in the process of the modernization of Chinese aesthetics. This thesis will especially discuss the inspiration on the cultural and humanistic concerns, the maintenance of the native cultural tradition and the emphasis of the critics's devotion and the reservation of aestheticism to the establishment of a new criticizing and elucidating system梩he cultural poetics.
