The extremely lively discussion on the dramas about Baogong of Yuan Dynasty and the warm debate on the values of individual and society of "honest and upright officials" of whom Baogong was the representative had ever happened since 1950. Instead of criticizing the previous opinions, this paper only gives a deeper and more overall exposition about the reason of occuring, the ideological content, and the cultural connotation of the dramas about Baogong.This paper consists of the preface, the main body and the conclusion.In the preface, the author firstly introduces the unique position of these dramas about Baogong in the dramas of Yuan Dynasty, then points out that the dramas about Baogong displays humanism by deep concern about the lives and morality. At last, the author briefly summarizes the previous studies on the dramas about Baogong and indicates the writing intention and the way of study.The main body studies the dramas about Baogong from four aspects. The part I is the socio-psychological mechanism of the occurrence of these dramas in the Yuan Dynasty. The occurrence of them is related to the profoundly social reason and the foundation of thought and culture. The Mongolian invaded the Central Plains where the society was disordered and the helpless people were longing for rectifying the government . The well liked stories of Baogong had been developing and spreading widely since Song and Jin Daynasty. So they received the great respondence from society andthe spiritual impulsion, and it provided the playwright with opportunities of era andpsychology to put those stories at the stage. And the desires for releasing emotion, interposing society and realizing self-value were the playwrights' strong writing implu-sion.The part II is concerned of the era spirit of the dramas about Baogong in Yuan Dynasty. The dramas represented the spirit of that times for they exposed the living predicament of the poor and weak people in society at that time and praised highly the opposition from the group oppressed. They should be regarded as the brilliant works which enlightened the medieval era.The Part HI descirbes the artistic achievement and cultural connotation of them. They achieved the most outstanding success in art for depicting the figure of Baogong?an honest and upright official who stood for the interests of the people through his whole life. He' d become the people's spiritual pillar. For most of poor men, Baogong' s character contained many elements such as the legal spokesman, the embodiment of intelligence, the representative of courage and the guardian of justice. In addition, the dramas also shaped a large number of the fresh figures of the oppressors and the oppressed. For example, "YaNei", the representative of the bigwigs and ZhangBiegu^ ZhangGuuGuo Cheng, etc. They were all absolutely lifelike and had clear-cut personalities. The dramas also made the outstanding achievements in the aspect of forming the story plots and unfolding the drama contradictions. Every drama had it's own unusual plot arrangement. The dramatic contridictions were so sharp and exciting that they could make us be in the nervous expectation with the great attention. The language of the dramas had simple, pure and true qualities. The dialogues were simple and popular. Every character spoke according to his or her position and identity.Baogong's words and the bigwig's were not in the least alike and all wonderful.?2 ?The cultural meaning of the dramas about Baogong in Yuan Dynasty is explained from three aspects:Firstly, the dramas about Baogong in Yuan Dynasty firstly pondered over the social relation between the officials and the people that is antagonistic and complementary each other in the fonn of drama, and showed the ideal vision of "the honest and upright official" and "the servile people" while they also evinced people's longing for the ideal bureaucracy.
