As we know, Virginia Woolf is a representative author of 揝tream of Consciousness?in Britain. And for a long time, most scholars in our country researched her works under the background of 揝tream of Consciousness? But it does not help to grasp the complexity of Woolf抯 works. According to this status, this essay puts - forward and discusses on Existential Consciousness for more quintessence of Woolf抯 thoughts and arts.Firstly, we can find an obvious outlook on life that is called 揈xistential Consciousness? and it is not only resulted from the author抯 personal experiences but also influenced by the ages. Secondly, Existential Consciousness in Woolf抯 novels has manifested in two ways: the first is existential state of characters. The two different lives leaded by protagonists and sub-protagonists disclose 揹eath and change?which included in her novels. The second is existential value of characters. Woolf describes the characters?persuit that for 揷hange?and against 揹eath?all their life, and focus it on the lacking and surpassing of selfhood. Thirdly, this article expounds the meaning of Existential Consciousness in Woolf抯 novels and her corresponding 損hilosophy of beings? Reflected in novels, that is description on existential states, seeking for existential position, and exploration of existential value.Virginia Woolf抯 sympathy and care for humanity enriches the signification of her works, strengthen theirs influence. And having analysed Existential Consciousness in Woolf抯 novels, we can have a more clear view of Virginia Woolf抯 rough life which suffered from illness, but full of creativity.
