Objective:To observe the clinical effect on the application of fumigating and washing of lower extremities for the rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and find out the mechanism in order to provide the theoretical basis for the application.Methods:40 patients with severe knee osteoarthritis as research subjects were randomly divided into two groups by admission time in our hospital from June 2008 to January 2010:the treatment group and the control group(each group included 20 patients). All the patients received treatment for TKA and coventional postoperative rehabilitation. The patients in the treatment group used the traditional chinese medicine to fumigate-wash their knees after sutures were removed. The function recovery was evaluated for two groups according to the knee score system of Hospital for Special Surgical (HSS) in the 2nd,3rd,4th week and 3rd month respectively. Results:The HSS scores of the two groups had no significant difference before the operation and also in the 2nd week after the operation(P>0.05);but had significant difference in the 3rd,4th week after the operation (P<0.05).The treatment group had higher scores than the control group in the pain symptom, muscle strength and knee ROM(range of motion) (P<0.05).While the HSS scores of the two groups had no significant difference in the 3rd month(P>0.05). Besides, the patients in the treatment group have no side-effect related to the fumigating and washing of lower extremities treatment.Conclusion:1 The fumigating and washing of lower extremities treatment could relieve the pain obviously and could also have better effect in the recovery of the knee ROM and walking function after TKA in recent time;2 The fumigating and washing of lower extremities treatment could also shorten recovery time;3 The fumigating and washing of lower extremities treatment is reliability without side-effect. |
