| Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of treating prophase adolescent idiopathic scoliosis by remedial gymnastics. Methods:Thirty patients with prophase adolescent idiopathic scoliosis admitted in the Department of Orthopedics, Fujian Provincial Hospital from November 2008 to November 2009 participated in the study voluntarily. All the participants were divided randomly to a control group and a treatment group with 15 patients in each group. The observation cycle is six months when patients in the treatment group received the remedial gymnastics treatment and patients in the control group without any treatment. Observations of indicators are the Cobb angle changes, and then assess efficacy. Results:In 15 cases of prophase adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients in treatment group,9 cases were clinicaly improved and the total effective rate was 60 percent. The difference of the Cobb angle (before and after treatment changes) of the treatment group was significant (p<0.05) while the Cobb angle of the control group showed no much difference before and after the treatment (p>0.05), showed that the clinical efficacy of treatment group was better than the control group. Conclusions:Remedial gymnastics is effective for prophase adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and it is a comfortable and painless therapy with a higher compliance. However, the therapy should be persisted for a long time. |
