Objective To evaluate the effects and safety of continuous blood purification (CBP) in acute renal failure after orthotopic liver transplantation. Methods The clinical data of twelve cases with ARF after orthotopic liver transplantation which needed CBP therapy in The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were analyzed retrospectively from Jan 2004 to Dec 2009. Parameters such as renal function, liver function, electrolyte, blood gas analysis, coagulation function, blood platelets count and the general condition of each patient were observed before and after continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) , and adverse reactions during CBP were also be observed. Results After CVVH, urinary volume obviously improved, anasarca gradually relieved. Renal function, liver function, electrolyte and CVP were bviously improved (P<0.05). Coagulation function, blood platelets count and blood gas analysis were similar before and after treatment (P>0.05). During CVVH, heart rate and blood pressure were stable, and no adverse reaction. Conclusions CBP is a safe and effective therapy for patients with acute renal failure after liver transplantation.
