Alopecia areata is considered as a kind of physically and mentally disease, which influenced by several aspects, such as hereditary factor, autoimmune function disorder or psyche-factor. Alopecia areata is widely discovered all over the world in any ages, without difference between gender and race. Nowadays, more and more experts focus on the function of psychological factor in the alopecia areata, and evaluate the effect of different psychological assessment scale used in the therapy of alopecia areata. However it is not clear that which kind of mental factors most closely relative to the alopecia areata. And though several methods were used in the treatment of alopecia areata, the psychotherapy was seldom used, which the patients did not receive the systemic treatment. The research discussed the epidemiological investigation and SCL-90 evaluation of 185 healthy person and patients suffering alopecia areata, and the positive by SCL-90 was divided into two groups randomly:control group which accept general combined treatment of tradition Chinese medicine and western medicine, therapy group which accept more intervention(doxepin) to mental disorder than control group, and evaluate the two groups after treatment by SCL-90. Then we would discover the general character of alopecia areata and the mental factor which is most dependable on the pathogenesis of alopecia areata to judge the effect of intervention to mental disorder, analyzed the data by Microsoft Office Excel 2003, SPSS11.0.The research show:1. The incidence of alopecia areata is 0.01% in this research; the ratio between male and female is 1.3:1, the age of onset is from 10 to 66, the mean age of male is 34.45±11.95, while the female is 34.05±11.97, which there is no significant difference between two genders in any ages. (t=0.156, p>0.05). The patients of 21-50 years old are most easy to suffer from alopecia areata 1 to 11 years, among which the part of positive family history occupy 11.35%.2. The number of patients with mental motivation is 137 (74.05%). We should also pay more attention on sudden stress events, playing pc games long time and playing poker during whole night, besides the stress in work, study or life,3. The total score and the number of positive aspects have significant difference between the two groups (t=3.43 and 5.08, p<0.05), which indicate the influence of mental factors to alopecia areata.4. the somatization (t=2.43, p<0.05), the compulsion symptoms (t=5.17, p<0.05), the interpersonal sensitivity (t=4.64, p<0.05), the depression (t=3.17, p<0.05), the anxiety (t=2.97, p<0.05), the rivalry(t=3.25, p<0.05) and bigotry(t=2.31, p<0.05) have significant difference between the two groups, which indicate the 7 factors above play important role in alopecia areata. However the consternation (t=0.00025, p>0.05), psychiatric disease(t=1.72, p>0.05) and others (t=1.03, p>0.05) have no significant difference between the two groups, which indicate no obvious relationship between the 3 factors and alopecia areata.5. The frequency of the 7 factors influencing the alopecia areata:the compulsion symptoms; bigotry; the depression; the interpersonal sensitivity; the anxiety; the compulsion symptoms; the somatization, which also indicate the sequence of dependablity of the 7 factors to alopecia areata.6. The evaluation of 40 patients in control group by SCL-90 show no significant difference between before and after treatment (p >0.05), indicate the unavailability of general treatment of tradition Chinese medicine and western medicine. The total score and number of positive numbers of 39 patients in therapy group have significant difference between before and after treatment (t=8.44 and 4.62, p<0.05), which indicate the doxepin is effective in the treatment of mental disorder in Alopecia Areata patients. The 5 factors below:the compulsion symptoms(t=5.06, p<0.05), the interpersonal sensitivity (t=9.17, p<0.05), the depression(t=3.14, p<0.05), the anxiety (t=8.36, p<0.05) and the rivalry (t=9.34, p<0.05) in the 39 patients of the therapy group show significant difference between before and after treatment, which indicate the doxepin can improve the 5 mental factors above efficaciously. Meanwhile the somatization(t=0.0003, p>0.05) and the bigotry(t=0.0042, p>0.05) show no significant difference and the doxepin can not help the patient of alopecia areata to improve the mental disorder in this research..
