Objectives To know the related stigma and discrimination of PLWHA and their family members endured because of HIV infection;to know the differences in HIV related stigma and discrimination among PLWHA, PLWHA'S family members and common people in rural area,and to analysis the reasons of HIV related stigma and discrimination .To understand the HIV related stigma and discrimination and reasons of HIV stigma and discrimination.Methods 523 people were investigated, 117 among them were PLWHA, and 190 were their family members lived in epidemic areas, and the others were normal people lived in non-epidemic areas. Face to face interview was carried out. The EpiData3.1 is used to construct the database and input the data. SPSS 13.0 is used to analyze the data. According to the kinds of data, T-test, chi-square test, ANOVA and logistic regression analysis were used.Results 65.4% of the investigated people are peasant,there are no statistically significant different between male and female. There are statistically significant different among PLWHA, PLWHA family members and normal people on age, professional and educational level.The stigma and discrimination PLWHA and their families sufferred can be divided into perceived stigma and discrimination and received stigma and discrimination, and these two kinds of stigma and discrimination were statistically significant different between PLWHA and their family members (t=4.731,P<0.001; t=3.259,P=0.001), and the perceived stigma and discrimination was more serious than received stigma and discrimination.The perceived stigma and discrimination were related to their self-efficacy (OR=0.558,P=0.041), Family APGAR (OR=0.650,P=0.027), infected with HIV or not (OR=2.116,P=0.004).The received stigma and discrimination were related to their self-efficacy (OR=0.468,P=0.028), Family APGAR (OR=0.427,P<0.001), infected by HIV or not (OR=3.412,P=0.001).The differences of the score for HIV related social discrimination were statistically significant among PLWHA, PLWHA family members and normal people(F=351.088,P<0.001), and the differences had a particular pattern, almost got more apparent when their relations are remoter.The HIV related social discrimination were related to the level of contact with PLWHA (OR=3.728, P<0.001), the score of HIV related knowledge (OR=0.825,P=0.001), the understanding of PLWHA's situation (OR=1.102,P<0.001).Conclusions Stigma and discrimination did exist around the environment where PLWHA and their family lived, suggesting that it was necessary to develop a series of policies and measures to fight against stigma and discrimination.
