| This paper tries to discuss, summarize and induce the theory about correlation between heart and kidneys of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). Five parts are included:sorting the ancient literature, exploration of the theory, selecting common patterns of syndrome, cases analysis and reviewing modern documents.The theory of correlation between heart and kidneys is closely related with Yin-Yang and The Five Elements, the Chinese ancient natural philosophy which can be traced back to Yi Zhuan and Hong Fan. However, from the Huangdi's Internal Classic and The Classic on Medical Problems, Yin-Yang and Five Elements are used to explain human physiology and pathology, adding the content of anatomy, while the basic framework of this theory was established. Thereafter, doctors of Tang Dynasty and the Song gradually discussed about the viscera and associated diseases using the theory of Water and Fire. Doctors in the Jin and Yuan dynasty elaborated on the Ascending-descending Theory of heart and kidneys, Li Dong Yuan's Treatise on Spleen and Stomach laid the foundation for the theory of spleen and stomach are the hub of movements of heart and kidneys. The Ming and Qing dynasties are the heyday of the correlation between heart and kidneys theory developing process, doctors discussed many aspects academic contents according the viscera, such as the links of physiology and pathology between heart and kidneys, and elated disease's etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and Chinese herbal formulas and medicines. Minewhile, some very important theories had been proposed, such as Sovereign Fire and Ministerial Fire theory, genuine-Yin and genuine-Yang theory, the Spleen and Stomach actions as the hub of movements theory, essence and blood sharing with a same origin theory. These topics bettered the correlation between heart and kidneys theory gradually. Scholars in modern and contemporary times have done many works to review, summarize, refine and classify the theories of correlation between heart and kidneys on the one hand, besides have done numbers of studies on experiments and clinical researches on the other hand. These efforts promote the development and perfection of the theory.In field of traditional Chinese medicine, the liver, heart, spleen, lungs, kidneys in human body are grouped together, they are a collective term known as five zang-organs. The traditional theory that five zang organs are the commander of the function in the whole body and they are correlating with each other closely, is proposed by Professor Deng Tietao. The theory develops from the classical theory of Five Elements, has summarized doctors'clinical experience and academic thoughts of all the past Chinese dynasties. Professor Deng put forth the theory based on his long-term clinical practice. With its profound connotation and clinical value, the theory has got fully recognition and development in recent years. The correlation between heart and kidneys theory was come up just as one subsystem of the Five Zang Organs Correlation theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is a theory mainly discusses the contacts of physiology and pathology between heart and kidneys, with the aim to direct clinic instructive treatment according the requirement of medical practice. At the base of the five zang organs theory, the heart and kidneys correlation theory is more detailed, more substantial, it is also looked on as a supplement to the five zang organs correlation theory, owns plenty of theoretical implication and clinical instructive significance.This paper discusses the concrete connotation of the heart and kidneys correlation from the following several levels. Firstly, heart and kidneys are closely associated with each other in physiology. In generally, these forms are included:meridians communications, synergism between yin and yang (Including essence and blood can transform each other, yang's interaction,senses and will appear alternatively) and Sovereign Fire and Ministerial Fire at their own place. In etiology, the traditional epistemology insists that failing in coordination is the major pathogenesis between heart and the kidneys. But because of ambiguous concept, there arose many kinds of controversies among the later doctors. Here we try to clarify the connotation of the etiology between heart and kidneys, through combing symposium on medical topics in different ages with clinical practice, redefining its main concepts. We consider the etiology of heart and kidney should include three aspects at least. The one is progress of disease between heart and kidneys, the other one is yin and yang mutual loss (Including essence and blood mutual loss, the Yang mutual loss, Senses and Will lesions), and Sovereign Fire and Ministerial Fire at abnormal place is the third one.This topic, in clinic application, has combed the common syndrome types of the disease spreading between heart and kidneys and the failure interaction of heart and kidney. What's more, looks up the related literatures according to the documents, to choose the common diseases and screening and summarizing its core contents, from three points(treat heart disease from kidneys,treat heart disease from kidneys, treat disease both from heart and kidneys). Theories must be put into practice for examination. These medical cases records and literatures validate the feasibility of the TCM heart and kidneys correlation theory's guidance for modem diagnosis and treatment. It also proposes workable solutions and reference for modem diagnosis and treatment and experiments. |
