Purpose:To investigate the status on fall efficacy of the elderly;to analyze the difference of fall efficacy between baseline and six months through health education and the Otago Exercise Programme; To offer a simple and effective intervention for the elderly in the community. Methods:In this study.two of the health centers in Changchun were randomly selected as intervention group and control group respectively.Ninety over 65 years old were selected in the study.the intervention group 47.the control group 43.according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. After getting the uniform training,12 investigators, who were divided into 6 groups.used the same scale which is named Modified Fall Efficacy Scale to investigate the old people. The persons who were in the intervention group were given health education and the Otago Exercise Programme for 6 months.Persons in control group were given health education only. The health education included fall risk awareness, risk factors of falls and fall prevention measures. All people got health education once a month. Every leisure took 10~15 minutes.OEP includes two parts.the first part of which includes the warm-up and the strength and balance exercises, totally takes 30 minutes every time.3 times a week, one time every other day;the second part.which includes the walking plan, takes 30 minutes every time,2 times per week.According to their own condition.target exercise and strength conditioning. In this study.elderly people received health education 6 times.3 aspects;intervention group received training in-home intervention 12 times, which was since the implementation of intervention, once every other week, other times were on-demand telephone follow-up tutorial.Gave the health education materials printed to each person;the OEP training content, exercise grades and individual sports calendar were given to the elderly in the intervention group.who were informed to fill the individual sports calendar according to the training records.Set up a database by EpiData3.02.used the methods as paired/test and two independent samples t test. Compared two groups on indoor, outdoor status and the fall efficacy respectively.Results:(1)During the study,45 elderly people were in intervention group.whose average age was 71.93±5.06;43 elderly people were in control group with mean age 72.98±5.24.Before the intervention.two groups of elderly general information had no statistical significance (P>0.05),(2)The baseline fall efficacy scores had no statistical significance(P>0.05).After 6-month-intervention,the difference between the intervention group and the control group on efficacy score was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before and after the intervention, intervention group had great significance(P<0.05)on falls efficacy scores, control group had no significance(P>0.05).(3)The baseline indoor scores had no statistical significance(P>0.05).After 6-month-intervention.the difference between the intervention group and the control group on indoor score was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before and after the intervention, intervention group had great significance(P<0.05)on indoor scores, control group has no significance(P>0.05).(4)The baseline outdoor scores had no statistical significance(P>0.05).After 6-month-intervention,the difference between the intervention group and the control group on outdoor score was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before and after the intervention, intervention group had great significance(P<0.05)on outdoor scores.control group had no significance(P>0.05).Conclusions:(1) OEP improves the level of fall efficacy in older people effectively.(2) OEP can enhance the confidence of indoor and outdoor activities in the elderly from falling.(3) OEP can be used among the elderly in China, which provides information for the community to make measures.
