ObjectivesTo investigate the status of nurses'resourcefulness, job stress and depressive symptoms and describe the relations among them, and to research the influencial factors for the nurses'resourcefulness.MethodsThe questionnaires were used by facilitation the cluster sampling method to collect data. Data were collected from 613 nurses who were working at 22 hospitals distributing differen classes in Hengyang City of Hunan Provinee. The demography data of nurses were collected with common questionnaire. The data of depressive symptoms of nurses were collected using the Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS); the data of job stress of nurses were collected using Work Stressor Scale of Nurse; the data of resourcefulness of nurses were collected by Resourcefulness Scale. SPSS software Package(version13.0) was used to process the data, the statistical methods included descriptive statistics analysis, Independ samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis, etc.Results(1)The score's range of resourcefulness for the nurses was from 25 to 134, and the average score was 87.67±17.16, the total equalization scorce was 3.51±0.45. In the two dimensions about resourcefulness, personal resourcefulness (3.20±0.68) was higher than social resourcefulness(3.03±0.67()P=0.000). After statistical analysis, it was shown that the resourcefulness of nurses was significantly affected by hospital level, age, working years, job position, educational level, job title, working methods, round of night shifts, professional interest, monthly income and chronic disease. It was no statistical significance for marriage in nurses'resourcefulness. (2)The score's range of stress origins for the nurses was from 40 to 140, and the average score was 89.32±18.03, which was at a moderate stress level. Of 613 nurses, 90 nurses(14.7%) were at the light stress( score: 35~70); 408 nurses (66.6%) nurses were at the moderate stress(score: 71~105); 115 nurses (18.8%)nurses were at the severe stress (score: 106~140). According to the stress level, the most influential factor was workload and time allocation following nursing professional and work issues, patient care, working environmentand equipment issues, management and interpersonal skills among the five dimensions of the stress. The effect of hospital level, chronic disease, professional interest on the nurses'occupaional stressors was significantly different (P<0.05).(3)The average score about depression index was 0.54±0.11, which was at a light depression level. Of 613 nurses, 208 nurses(33.9%) were not at the depression, 203 nurses(33.1%) at the light depression; 169 nurses (27.6%) were at the moderate depression; 33(5.4%)nurses were at the severe depression. The effect of hospital level, job titles, professional interest on the nurses'depression level was significantly different (P<0.05).( 4 ) Different work stressor was obviously different for the nurses'resourcefulness or personal resourcefulness(P=0.006, P=0.000). It was negatively correlated with nurses'resourcefulness, personal resourcefulness and social resourcefulness. The correlation coefficiency was from -0.94 to -0.217.(5)Different depression index was obviously different for nurses'resourcefulness, personal resourcefulness and social resourcefulness. It was negatively correlated with nurses'resourcefulness, personal resourcefulness and social resourcefulness. The correlation coefficiency was from-0. 156 to -0. 289.(6)The professional interest, depression index, chronic disease, job title, working methods, management and interpersonal skills accounted for 14.3% of the variance of resourcefulness.Conclusion(1)The score of resourcefulness for nurses, who work in Hengyang city, is at a high level. Personal resourcefulness is higher than social resourcefulness.(2) The lower resourcefulness for the nurses is, the heavier depression degree or higher job stress is .(3)The professional interest, depression index, chronic disease, job title, working methods, management and interpersonal skills on nurses resourcefulness are predictable.
