| This paper is undertaken to conduct a comprehensive research on the situation of higher clinical pharmacy education in China. Clinical pharmacy education in China has developed only recently, so there are many problems, such as the variety of degrees offered from various programs, unbalanced regional development, small enrollment, short academic structure, no standardized curricula, and shortage of teachers, etc. The interpretation of the guide of PharmD program on the educational goals, curricula and training contents in United States is performed in the paper in order to offer a reference for China. Besides, the analysis in this paper is focused on the seven famous universities including UCSF and UT-A.Comparing clinical pharmacy education in China with that in the United States, the following suggestions on the training pattern of higher education in clinical pharmacy are offered based on the situation of our country. First, the training target should be proposed for educating applied talents, namely training clinical experts in pharmaceutical care in the future. Second, universities or colleges would offer Professional Master of Clinical Pharmacy after the students have finished a six-year undergraduate and graduate study. Third, courses would include a mix of basic chemistry, biomedical science, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical sciences, humanities and social sciences, pharmacotherapy. Fourth, the pattern of cooprative training should be estabilished between the universities or colleges and the hospital pharmacy departments to let clinical pharmacists participate in the professional development planning and curriculum teaching, and take charge of pharmacy practice teaching. Fifth, the guide of clinical pharmacy education should be formulated by authority and then more universities or colleges should be encouraged to offer clinical pharmacy program and enroll more students . |
