Object: To investigate and evaluate the life quality of patients following off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting by the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire. Methods: A sample of 108 patients who had underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (off-pump CABG) during September 2009 to December 2010 had completed the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire personally or through telephone interview surveys. The SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire comprises eight subscales that represent different aspects of well-being, physical functioning (PF), bodily pain (BP), role limitations caused by physical health problems (RP), role limitations caused by personal or emotional health problems(RE), general mental health (MH), social functioning (SF), vitality (VT) and general health perception (GH). In this study, the scores of the patients were compared to the scores of normal healthy subjects from Sichuan province (control group).Result: The study group showed obvious lower scores in the PF BP, SF, RP subscales. Statistically significant differences (P<0.05) were found in these subscales between the study group and the control group. There were no significant differences between two groups in RE MH VT GH subscales. Conclusion: Though patients following off-pump CABG tend to have a poor life quality compared to general population, the surgery has shown no significant impact on patients'emotion and mental health.
