ObjectiveTo observe and study the effect of treating children with CVA(patterns of internal accumulation of phlegm due to deficiency of spleen)by using SuJie Mixture cough medicines.MethodWith a prospective randomized controlled menthod,54 patients who were accorded with the inclusive criteria were divided into two groups-he observed group and the controlled group by a random number on the allocation card. There were 28 cases in observed group who were treated with SuJie Mixture cough medicines and other 26 cases in controlled group who inhaled salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate power(seretide)and oral montelukast sodium chewable tablets. The treatment course of both groups lasted 14 days. The change of several items were observed between pre and post treatment, including symptoms, peripheral blood eosinophils (EOS), parameters of pulmonary function(FEV1,PEF)and diurnal variability of peak expiratory flow (diurnal variability of PEF). Then the materials were analyzed with the statistical soft system of SPSS 17.0 in order to study the differences of the two therapies. The evaluation of the efficacy was based on the improvement of the clinical symptoms. Diferences with P<0.05 were considered significant.Result1. The efficiency of relieving cough:After the treatment the cough scores of both groups reduced obviously(P<0.01).There was statistical difference between the cough scores of both groups after the treatment (P<0.05). The differences of mean rank of cough assigned grades of pre and post treatment in the observed group were higher than those in the controlled group(P<0.01). The total effective rate of the Sujie Mixture cough medicines group (75%)was higher than that of the other group (61.54%) (P<0.05). Those indicated that the observed group surpassed the controlled group.2. The symptoms and signs:Compared with the controlled group, there were significant differences in the scores of anorexia, chest distress, mental weariness and distinclination to talk, tastelessness in the mouth not thirsty and total scores in the observed group after the treatment(P<0.05 or P<0.01). The results showed that the Sujie Mixture cough medicines group could ameliorate concomitant symptoms.3. The peripheral blood eosinophils(EOS):After the treatment, EOS of both groups were not significantly different(P>0.05), which indicated Sujie cough mixture medicines had no significant effect on EOS.4. The lung function and the diurnal variability of PEF:The parameters of pulmonary function (FEV1, PEF) increased while the diurnal variability of PEF gradually declined in both groups after the treatment. There were statistically significant differences in the three indicators between pre and post the treatment (P<0.01). It suggested that Sujie cough mixture medicines could help children with CVA to improve the ventilation function. Further-more, after the treatment the diurnal variability of PEF of the observed group was remarkably lower than that of the control group (P<0.01). It meaned the observed group could reduce the diurnal variability of PEF effectively compared with the controlled group.Conclusion1. Compared with the western medicines, Sujie Mixture cough medicines can relive cough and syndromes and signs, improve the pulmonary ventilation function and reduce the diurnal variability of PEF more effectively.2. Agaist with the root of CVA latent phlegm, Sujie Mixture cough medicines can treat the chronic cough with its function of eliminating dampness and phlegm and regulating Qi and relieving cough. Its mechanism is possibly related to control airway inflammation.
