Objective:Comparison of intertrochanteric fractures of proximal femur locking compression plate (LCP) and the dynamic hip screw (DHS) treatment advantages.Method:A retrospective study of 100 DHS inpatients receiving operations during hospitalization at Affiliated hospital of Chengdu University of TCM, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Sichuan Orthopaedic Hospital from Jan 2008 to Mar 2009, included 46 male patients and 54 female patients. Their average age was 71 years old and they were during 51~87 years old. According to Tronzo-Evans classification:34 patients were I type,30 patients were typeⅡ,19 ofⅢ,17 of typeⅣAmong them,46 cases were received DHS,54 cases were received LCP. Operating times, the intraoperative blood loss, X-ray exposure frequency, Healing time and therapeutic evaluation were compared between two groups.Result:All of the patients were followed up. the follow-up duration ranged from 6 to 14 months(average 11. months). Operating times of LCP group were about 19mins shorter than the DHS group, the intraoperative blood loss of LCP group were about 111ml shorter than those in the DHS group. As for typeⅢandⅣ, the effects in the LCP group were superior to those in the DHS group and there was significant statistical difference (P<0.05)Conclusion:Locking compression plate (LCP) has advantages of reliability, less complication and quicker fracture healing; Moreover, it is a more effective method to treat typeⅢandⅣIntertrochanteric Fracture.
