Objective: To investigate the protective effects of Lithium Chloride (LiCl) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats and its potential mechanism.. Methods: 1.Sixty SD rats were randomly averagely divided into 4 groups: sham (group A), IR(group B), or IR + LiCl (group C),or L-NAME + IR + LiCl (group D). 2.L-NAME (30mg·kg-1·d-1) was administered intraperitoneally to D group since 7 days before experiment. 3.LiCl (15 mg/kg) was given in group B and C before ischemia via jugular vein. 4.Ischemia-reperfusion was induced by ligating left anterior descending artery (LAD) for 30 minutes and then reperfusing for group B, C and D 240 minutes. Group A only takes a shame operation. 5.At the end of the experiment, the heart rates of different stages and arrhythmias were noted, 6.the plasma levels ofα-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (HBDH) and creatine kinase isoenzyme-MB (CK-MB), activity of plasma nitricoxide synthase (NOS), myocardial and plasma content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were detected respectively. 7.Besides, tissues were prepared for light microscopic and transmission electron microscopic evaluation. Results: Compared with group B, Plasma levels of HBDH and CK-MB and rate of reperfusing arrhythmias were also significantly dropped in group C (P <0.05); Compared with group B, group C could markedly enhanced the activity of SOD and reduced MDA content in myocardium and plasma (P <0.05); Pathologic evaluation showed myocardial lesion was less striking in group C than in group B.Conclusion: LiCl may attenuate myocardial oxidative stress in ischemia-reperfusion injury.
