Objective:To study the selected concurrent arterial chemotherapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy on intermediate and advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Methods:36 cases with intermediate and advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) confirmed by pathology were randomly divided into two groups before radiotherapy and the two groups were given two different methods of treatment. Experimental group (n=19) received regional intra-arterial chemotherapy (LACT) and radiotherapy.Control group(n=17) received systemic chemotherapy(SCT) and radiotherapy. Experimental group of radiotherapy in the 1,4 weeks to give 2 cycles of cisplatin plus 5-fluorouracil regional intra-arterial chemotherapy(LACT), Control group of radiotherapy in the 1,4 weeks to give 2 cycles of cisplatin plus 5-fluorouracil systemic chemotherapy(SCT).Results:The complete response rates were 100% for three month in the Experimental group and 94.1% in Control group. The complete response rates were 100% for six month in the Experimental group and 88.2% in Control group. The complete response rates were 89.5% for one year in the Experimental group and 76.5% in Control group. The differences of two groups were significant. Conclusion:LACT is more reasonable than SCT as radiotherapy combined with concurrent chemotherapy for these inter-mediate and advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
