The Distal Femoral Locked Plating System In The Treatment Of Unstable Intertrochanteric Hip Fracture In The Elderly

Objective To investigate the effects of the distal femoral Locked Plating system in the treatment of the intertrochanteric hip fractures in the Elderly. Methods 13 cases of intertrochanteric fractures in the Elderly were treated with he distal femoral Locked Plating system from February 2007 to November 2009. Of the 13 cases,5 cases grade as A2,8 cases grade as A3 based on the AO classification. Result The 6-14 months(10.1 months on the average) follow up was taken in 11 cases, Fracture union occurred in all cases without any delayed healing. According to Harris criterion,the Joint function was 91.2±3.2 points on the average, postoperatively. According to Sanders functional score, the joint function was excellent in 11 cases, better in 2 cases and no case failure. The excellent and good rate of the function of the hip Joint was 86.6 %. Conclusion The distal femoral Locked Plating system reduced the injury to the periostium and have less disturbance on the blood supply, anti-rotation capability, rigidity fixation. It is a good choice for treating unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures in the Elderly.
