Purpose:Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is one of the frequent malignat tumors, which has a high tendency of local recurrence and metastasis. This article aims to analyze the factors that influence the survival time and recurrence rate, as well as the effects of the operation and other corresponding factors for malignant fibrous histiocytoma, and then to supply some advise to improve the prognosis.Materials and methods:Retrospective analysis was conducted for the patients who were confirmed as malignant fibrous histiocytoma by pathological examination. Then survival curves were draw between survival time and age, gender, size of tumor, type of operations as well as adjuvant therapy respectively. Still, binary logistical regression about recurrence was carried out concerning all the factors as age, gender, size of tumor, type of operations as well as adjuvant therapy. Results:The median of survival time of patients who underwent radical operation during which more than 4cm normal tissue was excised was 15.0 months, while that of the patients who did not undergone radical operation was 6.0 months, with a remarkably significant difference(P<0.01). The median of survival time of patients who had tumors smaller than 10cm when they accepted corresponding treatments was 12.0 months, while that of the patients who had tumors larger than 10cm was 9.0 months, with a significant difference (P<0.05). The median of survival time of male patients was 12.0 months, while that of female patients was 14.0 months, with no significant difference (P>0.05). The median of survival time of patients older than 60 years was 12.0 months, while that of the other patients was 12.0 months, with no significant difference (P>0.05). The median of survival time of patients who accepted adjuvant therapy was 11.5 months, while that of the patients without adjuvant therapy was 12.5 months, with no significant difference (P>0.05). The recurrence rate of patients who underwent radical operation during which more than 4cm normal tissue was excised was 14.8% (4/27), while that of the patients who did not undergone radical operation was 55.6% (5/9), with a significant difference(P<0.05). But, the age, gender, symptom, size of tumor, adjuvant therapy had no significant influences towards recurrence rate (P>0.05). Conclusions: Early diagnosis for malignant fibrous histiocytoma and radical operation including more than 4cm normal tissues around the tumor in time when the tumor was less than 10cm can improve the survival time of the patients while decrease the possibility of recurrence significantly.
