Objective:To evaluate the value of preoperative ultrasonography for the thyroid papillary carcinoma in lymph node metastases. Methods:Investigate 39 patients with thyroid papillary carcinoma who underwent surgery of lateral neck dissection in our hospital in 2009.24 cases with cervical lymphadenectasis detected by preoperative ultrasonographic examinations were regarded as group A; the other 15 cases as group B. Collect the results of preoperative ultrasound and pathological examination of neck dissection, then analysis statistically.Results:20/24 (83.3%) patients pathologically confirmed lateral neck lymph node metastasis in group A, while 7/15 (46.7%) cases in group B, Chi-square test:P<0.05, odds ratio (OR)= 5.71.8 patients with node calcification in enlarged lymph nodes showed by preoperative ultrasonographic examination.4 patients were found of partial cystic change in lymph nodes (one case with calcification of lymph node), there was one case of aspect ratio imbalance (aspect ratio<1.5), all of these cases with lateral cervical lymph node metastasis were confirmed by postoperative pathology. Excluding the above 12 cases with characteristic changes in lymph nodes, once again chi-square test between group A and group B shows P> 0.05, OR=2.8571.Conclusion:Preoperative Ultrasonographic examination of cervical lymph node of papillary thyroid carcinoma makes a role in judging whether there is lateral cervical lymph node metastasis, particularly with lymph node echocardiography in patients with calcification or cystic change. Simple and no significant change in the lateral heterogeneity of cervical lymph node enlargement is of little significance.
