Objective:Investigate behaviors of family member who participate in patient's self-care in Grade III-A Hospitals in Changchun and Heart Disease hospital of Jilin province. Analyze the problems and reasons which existed in family members'participation in heart failure self-care and make the countermeasure, which set a good foundation for deeper researches about self-care education of heart failure and intervention in which family member attend.Methods:Handy sampling method was used to investigate 150 family members of heart failure patients of five Grade III-A Hospitals in Changchun and Heart Disease hospital of Jilin province by using self-designed questionnaire, which covered basic situation heart failure knowledge questionnaire and questionnaire of family member's participation in heart failure self-care (including seeking appropriate medical assistance , behaviors associated with taking medicine, behaviors associated with monitoring patient's condition and behavior associated with life ).Set up database by Excel 2003 and analyze the data by SPSS13.0.Results:1. There were 54.2% and 44.4% of subjects totally didn't know heart failure prognosis and side effects and attention of medicine.2. The average test scores of family member's participation in self-care questionnaire was 2.78±0.602, the scores of behaviors associated with taking medicine (NO.2 dimension) was the highest, seeking appropriate medical assistance (NO.1 dimension) and behaviors associated with life (NO.4 dimension) were relatively low, behaviors associated with monitoring patient's condition(NO.3 dimension) was the lowest.3. There were significant differences in different age, education, relationship with patient, health status , level of knowledge of family member and patient's span of illness on behaviors family member attend.Conclusion:1. Family members were not familiar with the knowledge of heart failure, especially the knowledge of heart failure prognosis and side effects of medication. In terms of behaviors they involved, family member always paid more attention to medication, but there was a lack of awareness to the significance of self-management of heart failure.2. Behaviors of family member participate in heart failure self-care in different age, education, relationship with patient, health status, level of knowledge of family member and patient's span of illness is different.3. Family member's participation in heart failure self-care can improve status of patient's self-care. It's necessary to strength heart failure self-care education in which family members participate in order to improve their skills.
