| Objective To compare the cost-effectiveness between different regimens of antibiotic prophylaxis in modified radical mastectomy patients during perioperative period. Methods Clinical data of 46 breast cancer patients who had undergone modified radical mastectomy and had received antibiotic prophylaxis during perioperative period were analyzed retrospectively. They were divided into 2 groups:single-use group (group S, n=23) were given antibiotics once only before the operation, while continue-use group (group C, n=23) were given antibiotics once before the operation and twice a day after the operation for no less than 3 days. Perioperative infection was observed in clinical symptoms (both in respiratory system and on surgical site), body temperature and white blood cell count; The cost of antibiotics were then calculated; all the data was analyzed statistically if possible. Results There was no significant difference between the groups in perioperative infection except in respiratory system infectious symptom. The cost and applied frequency of antibiotics were much less in group S than group C. mastectomy, but single-use regimen has much less cost, which should be recommended. |
