ObjectiveTo investigate the levels of plasma brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) in children with sepsis and evaluate its significance in sepsis.MethodsAuto immunoassay was used to detect plasma BNP and plasma cardiac troponin I(cTnI)of 47 children in sepsis group and 50 children in ordinary infection group, statistical comparision was proceeded with 11 no infection children,Main results1.The plasma BNP was higher in sepsis than those in the ordinary infection group and control group(all P<0.01),the plasma BNP was higher in severe sepsis and septic shock group than light sepsis group(P<0.05).2.The plasma cTnI was higher in sepsis than those in the ordinary infection group and control group(all P<0.05),the plasma cTnI was higher in sever sepsis and septic shock group than light sepsis group (P<0.01).3.Plasma BNP levels in all infection children were correlated with plasma cTnI weakly(r=0.233,P<0.01).Conclusions1.Children with sepsis had significantly higher BNP level compared with the other 2 groups, and were positively correlated with the severity of sepsis independent of conjestive heart failure.2.The plasma BNP in children with sepsis might not reflect the degree of sepsis-induced myocardial damage.
