ObjectiveTo detect microbleeds in the aged with lacunar infarction by susceptibility-weighted imaging, gradient-echo T2* -weighted imaging and conventional FSE sequence. Sensitivity of different sequence was evaluated. Incidence and predilection site of CMBs were obtained between lacunar infarction group and healthy elderly group, and so we gain the relation between CMBs and risk factors of lacunar infarction.Methods58 cases with lacunar infarction and 58 cases healthy elderly population above 60-years old were examined using SWI, GRE-T2*WI and conventional FSE sequence by GE signa HD 1.5T MR machine with 8 tunnel HR head coil. The number, location and frequency of microbleeds and location of lacunar infarction were evaluated. Otherwise, we recorded blood pressure, blood fat, blood sugar, previous stroke history and use of aspirin for patients and explored the relation between microbleeds and these factors. All of our findings were checked and approved by two radiology professors to make results more trustworthy. Statistical analysis was performed with the Statistical Package of Social Sciences(SPSS, inc).ResultIn the sensitivity to CMBs, SWI sequence was much better than GRE-T2*WI. GRE-T2*WI was much better than FSE sequence. CMBs was founded in 25 cases of lacunar infarction group and 6 cases of healthy elder. Slight, moderate, severe degree of microbleeds were founded in lacunar infarction group. Only slight microbleeds were seen in healthy elder. Incidence and grade of microbleeds were significantly different in two groups. The occurrence index of microbleeds was significantly highest in the thalamus-basal ganglia, higher in cortical-subcortical and lower in cerebellum and brain stem in all groups. There was a correlation between the number of CMBs and the number of lacunar infarction. Microbleeds were more prevalent with hypertension, previous stroke history and use of aspirin (p<0.05). There were no significant relationship demonstrated between microbleeds and diabetes mellitus, hyperlipemia.Conclusionâ‘ SWI sequence was much better than GRE-T2*WI and GRE-T2*WI was much better than FSE sequence in the sensitivity to CMBs.â‘¡It was revealed that the frequency of microbleeds was significantly high inlacunar infarction patients. There were clearly significant relationships demonstrated between microbleeds and number of lacunar infarction, hypertension, previous stroke history and use of aspirin.â‘¢SWI was a new sensitive sequence in detecting CMBs. It was vital significancein anticoagulation therapy, predicting for hemorrhage in lacunar infarction patients with CMBs...
