Objective:To investigate the relationship between soluble endoglin and preeclampsia.Method:The levels of sEng in serum of 45 women with preeclampsia(mild preeclampsia 15 cases, severe preeclampsia 30 cases,early-onset preeclampsia 12 cses,late-onset preeclampsia 18 cases) and 30 normal pregnant women(the first trimester, the secend trimester, the third trimester) were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.Western blot was used to investigate the protein expression of sEng in Placentaes of these women.Results:1.The serum level of sEng of the third trimester pregnancy (2.85±0.38ng/ml) was higher than that of the first trimester group(1.21±0.23ng/ml;P<0.01)and that of the second trimester group(1.78±0.28ng/ml;P<0.01).2.The serum level of sEng of the normal postpartum group(2.06±0.30ng/ml) was lower than that of the third trimester group(P<0.01).3.The serum level of sEng of the preeclampsia group (6.25±1.50ng/ml) was singnificantly higher than that of the thrid trimester group(P<0.01).The serum level of sEng of the severe preeclampsia group(7.03±1.21ng/ml) was singnificantly higher than that of the mild preeclampsia group(4.69±0.43ng/ml)(P<0.01 ).4.The serum level of sEng of the early-onset severe preeclampsia group(8.05±0.82ng/ml) was singnificantly higher than that of the late-onset severe preeclampsia group(6.35±0.92ng/ml)(P<0.01).5.The serum level of sEng of the preeclampsia postpartum group (2.13±0.27ng/ml)had no singnificant difference compared with that of the normal postpartum group(P>0.05).6.The protein expression of sEng in placenta was singnificantly higher in severe preeclampsia group(0.58±0.22) and mild preeclampsia group(0.25±0.19) compared with the third trimester group(0.15±0.13; p<0.01),and the severe preeclampsia group was higher than the mild group(p<0.01).The early-onset of severe preeclampsia group(0.78±0.10) was higher than the late-onset of severe preeclampsia group(0.44±0.18; p<0.01).7.There was singnificantly positive correlation and linear regression between the level of sEng in serum and the protein expression of sEng in placenta of preeclampsia group(r=0.883;P<0.01).Conclusion:1.The serum level of sEng of the nomal pregnancy group increased with gestational age. 2.The serum level of sEng of the preeclampsia group was higher than the normal pregnancy group. The severe preeclampsia group was higher than the mild group. The early-onset severe preeclampsia group was higher than the late-onset group. The serum level of sEng of the preeclampsia group was correlated with the severity and the onset of the desease and sEng may be as a biomarker to help identity and prognose preeclampsia.3.Excess expression of sEng in placenta may induce higher level of sEng in serum and then participate the pathophysiological process of preeclampsia.
