Purpose: to evaluate the short-time efficacy of Lucentis associated with PDT and compare that with monotherapy of Lucentis to treat wet age-related macular degeneration.Method: retrospective study in 24 cases, 12 of them were treated firstly with PDT,about 5-10 day later they were injected one dose of Lucentis every 4 weeks in the vitreous for 3 months, and another 12 patients were injected Lucentis with the same dose and same method, but no PDT. We collected the results of best corrected acuity visual and OCT for evaluate their efficacy and safe. Results: 6m later, both groups had a great significant improvement in best corrected acuity visual, the group of combination therapy of Lucentis and PDT had gained an average of 7.35 (P=0.002) letters and the group of Lucentis monotherapy had gained an average of 6.28 (P=0.009) letters, but the comparison between the two groups has no statistical significance (P=0.928). Conclusion: the study showed two methods of treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration, that is, Lucentis associated with PDT and monotherapy of Lucentis, both of them are efficacy and safe in short time, although it seems the combination therapy is a slight better than the monotherapy, but due to lack of clinic significance and the small samples, we can not drown a conclusion, further study is warranted.
