Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the relation between livinghabits, like smoking, heavy drinking, betel chewing; health condition, like periodontitis; personality, like age, sex. and the hyperpigment ofgingiva. This study can let me know the causes and risk factor of gingivalpigmented, and may offer us the basis for prevent and therapy of gingivalhyperpigmented. Methods:We get the volunteer's information about smoking, heavy drinking andbetel chewing with questionnaire; we exam the volunteer's oral cavity toknow their oral states and whether the gingiva is hyperpigmented; weconsult physical checkup reports th know the volunteer's health state, sexand age. We statistic the data with SPSS10.0 and Logistic regressionanalysis. Results: We inquiry 381 volunteers who lived in Changsha, Hunanprovince, all of these volunteers are the Han nationality and aged from 20to 88. We discovered that there are 106 volunteers (27.82%) exist gingivalhyperpigment among all of these volunteers.1,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, there are78male(73.6%) and 28 female(26.4%).2,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, the number ofgingival pigmented volunteers who is smokers is 62(58.5%) andnon-smokers is 44(41.5%).3,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, the number ofgingival hyperpigmented volunteers who is heavy drinking is19(17.9%) and non-heavy drinking is 87(82.1%).4,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, the number of gingival hyperpigmented volunteers who have the habit to chew betel is 26(24.5%) and who don't chewing betel is 80(75.5%).5,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, the number of gingival pigmented volunteers who have periodontitis is 77(72.6%) and who don't have periodontitis is 29(27.4%).6,In these 106 gingival hyperpigmented volunteers, the number of gingival hyperpigmented volunteers aged from 20 to 29 is 17(16.0%), aged from 30 to 39 is 13(12.3%), aged from 40 to 49 is 21(19.8%), aged from 50 to 59 is 24(22.6%), aged from 60 to 69 is 15(14.2%), older than 70 is 16(15.1%).The results is smoking and periodontitis can lead to gingivalpigmented. There are no obvious relationship between sex, age, heavydrinking, betel chewing and gingival pigmented.Conclusions:1. For the people who is volunteers in this study, the rate of gingival pigmented is 27.8%.Smoking and periodontitis are the risk factors of gingival hyperpigmented, smoking and periodontitis can lead to gingival hyperpigmented.2. Sex, age, heavy drinking, betel chewing have no obvious relationship with gingival pigmented.
