ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between IL-18,hs-CRP levels and clinical manifestations of coronary heart disease and to investigate the relationship between them and severity of coronary artery lesions at the same time.Methods79 cases who were in Heping Hospital of Changzhi Medical College from Oct.10,2007 to Jul.7,2008 were enrolled.63 cases were patients with coronary heart disease[42 cases with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 21 cases with stable angina pectoris(SAP)]and 16 cases were healthy control subjects. They were divided into three groups:ACS group, SAP group and the control group. And all cases were performed coronary angiography, and the patients were divided into three groups as follows: single vessel disease group, two vessels disease group, multiple vessels disease group. The concentration of IL-18 in serum was measured by ELISA assay. The concentration of hs-CRP in serum was determined by immune turbidimetry in Laboratory Department of our hospital.Results1.As compared with that of the control, the patients with ACS or SAP had significantly higher IL-18 concentration(P<0.01,P<0.05) and hs-CRP concentration(P<0.01,P<0.05).2.ACS compared with SAP,The levels of IL-18 and hs-CRP raised significantly(P<0.05).3.Depicted mean graphs of IL-18,hs-CRP levels in serum in ACS, SAP and the control groups. The results showed that there were significant difference. All of them showed a similar trend.4.Correlation analysis indicated that levels of IL-18 were positively correlated with hs-CRP in all cases(r=0.425,P<0.05).5.The levels of IL-18,hs-CRP were no difference existed in different vessels disease groups.(P>0.05).Conclusion IL-18 and hs-CRP take part in the pathophysiological course of CHD.IL-18,hs-CRP are related to the risk stratification of CHD.they may be markers of evaluating the stability of plaque. They, accompanied with coronary angiography can well help evaluating the severity and the outcome of coronary heart disease. But they are not associated with severity of coronary artery lesion.
