Objective To study the effect of salvia to Oxygenation/Antioxygenation imbalance in early-stage pulmonary fibrosis by duplicating silicosis in rabbits thereby to find an effective treatment on pulmonary fibrosis.Metheds 60 healthy male rabbits, weighing about 2.5kg, were randomly divided into 4 groups: A normal group;B salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group;C low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group;D silicosis group. (n=15 in each group). Silica dust suspension were poured into the tracheas of groups BC and D.The normal group were poured into equivalent volume of sodium chloride. The siliconic nodules were observed to evaluate whether the model has been successfully built .To determine the relations between salvia and oxidation/antioxidat- ion imbalance in the body of silicosis by detecting the content of MDA (thiobarbituric acid color method),vitality of SOD(xanthine oxidase method ) ,content of NO(NR Law method)in the serum of the rabbits after .Results In the 60 rabbits ,2 rabbits were dead in the low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group,1 rabbit were dead and 1 rabbit were failed to be made into model successfully in silicosis group.1.The serum concentration of MDA after rabbits were exposed to silica by 30d, 60d, 90d: the serum MDA level of the silicosis group rabbit were no significant difference between the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group, low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group in 30d(P>0.05), the serum of MDA level of the above three groups were significantly higher than those in normal group(P<0.05);the serum MDA level of the silicosis group rabbits were significantly higher than the normal group, the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group, low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treat-ment group in 60d,90d, the serum MDA level of the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group and low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treat-ment group were significantly higher than the normal group , the difference was statistically significant. (P < 0.05).2.The dynamic changes in serum SOD after rabbits were exposed to silica by 30d, 60d, 90d:the vitality of SOD in the silicosis group rabbit serum were no significant difference between the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group, low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group in 30d(P>0.05), the vitality of SOD in above three groups were significantly lower than those in normal group(P<0.05);the vitality of SOD in the silicosis group rabbits were significantly lower than those in the normal group,the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group, low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group in 60d,90d , the vitality of SOD in the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group and low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treat-ment group were significantly lower than the normal group, the difference was statistically significant.(P < 0.05). 3.The changes in serum NO after rabbits were exposed to silica by 30d, 60d, 90d: the serum NO level of the silicosis group rabbits were no significant difference between the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group, low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group in 30d(P>0.05) ,the serum of NO level of the above three groups were significantly higher than those in normal group(P<0.05); the serum NO level of the silicosis group rabbits were significantly higher than the normal group,the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group,low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treatment group in 60d,90d, the serum NO level of the salvia miltiorrhiza intraperitoneal injection group and low concentration salvia miltiorrhiza lung lavage treat-ment group were significantly higher than the normal group, the difference was statistically significant.(P< 0.05).Conclusion Salvia could effectively slow down the process of Oxygenation/Anti- oxygenation imbalance in the body of silicosis , thereby delaying early pulmonary fibrosis in silicosis .
