The Research of Reliability in Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE) for Clinical Skill in Undergraduate StudentsObjective:Examination of methods of medical education years has changed in the past 50,Medical students in need to assess the ability of knowledge,skills and attitudes.Reliability is an important parameters in authoritative examination.It is directly related to the number of the stations.But the number of stations directly related to the costs.Therefore,the complexity of organizing and the high-cost of it, become the bottleneck.Attempt to realize reasonable degree of reliability in large enrollment of students by seven OSCE with different contents in a medical school.Methods:there are seven times examinations in 2007 to 2009 in School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.Each year,there are qualification examination for internship at the end of fourth grade just before entering into the phase,final examination for fifth-grade at the end of undergraduate and final clinic skill assessment for seventh-grade at the time for get master degree.We also have data of a 18 stations examination for undergraduate students in 2007.We want to realize the reasonable Cronbach'a coefficient in OSCE perform in medical school that have large enrollment of students in it.Results:Each group obtained reliability results are as follows:A group,two times of 5 stations examination,reliability was 0.52 and 0.70,respectively.B group(9 stations test) the reliability 0.62,0.78,0.47 and 0.58,respectively.C group(a 12 stations test),0.70.D group(a 18 stations test),reliability reached 0.83.E group(8 stations test),reliability was 0.40,0.33,0.40 and 0.10,respectively.F group(a 12 stations test),reliability 0.44,0.57,0.49 and 0.56,respectively.Conclusion:8 to 12 stations of the OSCE is enough to include the need to assess the ability of medical students in different qualification examinations and final examinations.0.3 to 0.8 range of Cronbach'a reliability coefficient is satisfaction of wants in it.With an view to feasibility,reliability do not have to raise through the method of increase the number of stations.Various quality control measures was very useful on the smooth and efficient conduct of the examination,especially in the school have large enrollment of students in use OSCE.
