Objective To study the in vitro quality of apheresis platelets stored in platelet additive solutions(PAS).Methods 12 apheresis platelets were split into three equal parts and diluted to obtain secondary pools consisting of 80%PAS?20%plasma,70%PAS?30%plasma or 100 % plasma ,respectively. The in vitro variables [platelet count, MPV, pH, Hypotonic shock response (HSR), glucose consumption, lactate production, CD62p(%) of platelet concentrates(PCs) ] were performed on day 3, 5 and 7.Results The in vitro variables in three groups showed no significant difference until day 5.But on day 7,the pH of PCs in 100%plasma maintained better than other two groups, which still kept pH >6.0. Comparing with group with 100%plasma , HSR, glucose consumption, lactate production, and CD62p(%) of PCs in two groups consisting of PAS showed worse storage effectives .Conclusions Using PAS with 20%plasma or 30%plasma store PCs is feasible in terms during 5 days, however , PCs in PAS are more easily activate for up to 7 days.
