Purpose:The article was to observe and discuss the therapeutic effect of acupoint catgut embedding therapy on laryngeal cough.Methods:60 patients with laryngeal cough were randomly allocated to two groups. The catgut embedding group of 31 cases were treated with acupoint catgut embedding at points Kongzui(LU6) and Feishu(BL 13),while the medicine group of 29 cases, with oral administration of Chinese herbal medicine 'zhisou san'.The course of treatment was two weeks, and three courses for most. The therapeutic effects after every course of treatment, effects on upper respiratory tract infection, chronic pharyngitis and acute pharyngitis, and on symptoms and signs were observed in the two groups. Results:The total markedly-effective rate was 87.10%in the catgut embedding group and 72.41%in the medicine group, with significantly difference between the two groups(P<0.05);the therapeutic effects after every course of treatment have significantly difference between the two groups (P<0.05);after treatment, both symptoms and signs were obviously improved in the two groups. The effects on symptoms in the catgut embedding group were better than in the medicine group(P<0.05),while the effects on signs have no significantly difference between the two groups(p>0.05).Besides,the therapeutic effects on upper respiratory tract infection in the catgut embedding group were better than in the medicine group(P<0.05),while on chronic pharyngitis have no significantly difference between the two groups(p>0.05). Conclusion:The acupoint catgut embedding therapy has a satisfactory therapeutic effect on laryngeal cough. It can obviously improve the symptoms and signs of the patients, and works sooner.
